ANDALUCIA
The day in which we celebrate that we belong to Andalucía must be considered as an event that provides us the opportunity of going back to our roots in order to remenber our identity as Andalucians. In this special day we celebrate our brotherhood as Andalusians stating our differences as well as our common aspects.
In our institute IES Sierra Almijara we have paid special attention to this event dealing with different aspects. For example, the students of First of ESO have worked the relevant characteristics of each province of Andalucia stating the common and different features of each one. There has been also a special event in our institute in which some groups have attended a lecture by an important writer who was born in Nerja and who has written an important book about this beautiful village. And in the break time there was a traditional Andalusian breakfast for all the students with bread and oil, traditonal here in the Axarquia and in Andalucíain general.
In this blog we have also paid special attention to this event and some of the teachers have worked with their groups using different links to seach information related to the topic.

8th March: International Women's Day. 8 mars

Saint Valentine´s Day
Saint Valentine´s Day.
Saint Valentine´s Day is the most romantic day of the year all over the world. For our students it is a very important day where they can give way to their emotions. When we celebrate this event we usually use several activities such as reading and writing love poems, listening to love songs and even writing friendship cards or even love cards. Also there is a tradition amogst the teachers of English to pay attention to popular love sayings as these ones:
I claim there ain't
Another Saint
As great as Valentine.
- Ogden Nash.
Love me and the world is mine.
- David Reed.
Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction.
- Saint-Exupery.
Better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all.
- St. Augustine.
Sympathy constitutes friendship; but in love there is a sort of
antipathy, or opposing passion. Each strives to be the other, and both
together make up one whole.
- Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Some of the songs we have used with our students this special day are:WHEN YOU SAY NOTHING AT ALL by RONAN KEATY.
